'Grounded' Takes the Top Spot

Today was the hunt (not for ...Red October f/ Connery--that's a 1990 file.  I dug though 1999 leaving neighboring years scattered across the hallway floor (they are still there-just step over them).

We saw every top ten movie in the theater that year, except the #1.  It had a plot for which I needed to be alone, and by "alone" I mean with my husband, and by "with" I mean him far enough away so I could:  audibly figure the plot, have room to sit up or crisscross, and occasionally take notes (You jot thoughts during movies, right?  Sometimes?  No big deal; this is a safe place).

The hunt though 1999 uncovered one movie stub.  Impossible.  They must be elsewhere with notes on popcorn napkins.  I once kept them in a mug series I collected when Starbucks began to franchise eastward.

In a year of Star Wars:  Episode I..., Knotting Hill, Office Space, The Matrix...the stub I found was a pre-release that kept water cooler talk bubbling for a week...Jim Carrey must be coming, why else would they pre-release this...here?  It revived the radio recurrent from R.E.M.'s Automatic for the People, for that, I believe, a large market share of Music City was happy.  [Starring Carrey, Man On The Moon landed IMDb #55 for that year].  Jim made no appearance at the theatre pre-release.

The number one.
My husband and I sat, apart, with open cheese pizza in front of us, garlic dipping sauce (I could take notes on the box if need be), we were now prepared for this underground hit gaining national momentum.

Play Fight Club.

Silence.  The closing credits rolled. My pen unfeverishly parked behind my right ear, I chewed crust.  What's to say?  Who could let their brain rest?  We'd have to sleep on it.  Now?  No now, no.

It was a Blockbuster Video double feature Friday night.  We walked through the store, chose them, we could press on.  Nothing was said during the DVD change over.  I believe both of us were eluding contemplation.

Play Being John Malkovich.

What on earth has happened here tonight?  Of that I cannot recall.  My brain in over contemplation sifted through fact.  Any fact, no relation to one another fact.   Those movies should not be taken together, rather go to bed early Friday night and plan to call your sweet grandmother on Saturday morning to talk through the best way to plant flowers in winter.  If your grandfather answers the phone, ask him how he used to change the tire on his Ford.  Ground yourself as fast as possible [the dipping sauce can stay]. wink.
